Whatever Happened to the NY Titans Lacrosse Team?

I mean, I know what happened with this National Lacrosse League team, but you’ve got to be honest it was a real pity. You see, the poor old NY Titans were a bit of a team without a true base weren’t they? We know that they were from New York, however New York failed to support home games. Boo!

History of the NY Titans

History (Brief): The NY Titans were welcomed with open arms in 2006, after all, there hadn’t been any NLL presence since the NY Saints lost their position during 2002 – 2003 season, although it wasn’t till 2006 that they were in fact, defunct. The people of New York were hungry for a bit of lacrosse action (all 1,000 of them) but you see, the fans didn’t really maintain the momentum did they, along with attendances dropping from greater than 60,000 in 2006 to less than forty thousand in 2009: on second thought, possibly they simply didn’t realize where to go and watch their lacrosse team!

During their three lacrosse periods (is that all it was, wow, seemed longer somehow they actually played their home matches at 5 various venues – Madison Sq . Garden, Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum, Sovereign Bank Arena in New Jersey, Prudential Center in Newark, Jersey and also the BankAtlantic Center. That’s not really playing at home is it? As a die-hard lacrosse fan, it was even hard for me.

Anyway, negotiations were initiated with important people who know what’s best for everyone (ie themselves), including their bank balance, and it was confirmed in 2009 that the NY Titans were leaving behind NY, and would be transformed into the Orlando Titans, because they were moving to Orlando :(

Although this might have been bad news for New Yorkers, it was generally regarded as an excellent move for Lacrosse all together. A very regional sport, this expansion into FL was seen, by some, as a good move for the Lacrosse League.

I know I really should never say this, but it kind of sounds a bit “Mickey Mouse” to me!!

Remember the Titans.
